New York emissions fail rates by make and model year
Every initial emissions test recorded statewide from Sep 2025 to Aug 2026, grouped by the make code and model year the DMV recorded. Age dominates: among model years with at least 10,000 tests, model year 2001 vehicles failed 13.5% of the time (15,680 tests) and model year 2025 vehicles 2.7% (15,945 tests). Make differences partly reflect how old each make's cars on New York roads are.
