Utah emissions testing rules
Utah requires emissions inspections in five counties: Cache, Davis, Salt Lake, Utah and Weber. In Salt Lake, Davis, Utah and Weber counties vehicles less than six years old test every two years by model-year parity, and the 2026 tables mark every model year from 2020 back to 1996 as required; Cache County tests only vehicles six years old and older, every two years. The inspection may be done up to two months before the registration renewal.
Where testing is required
Licensed dealers must make sure vehicles sold to residents of Cache, Davis, Salt Lake, Utah or Weber counties meet emissions testing requirements; those five counties are the testing counties.

Registration and enforcement
The inspection may be done up to two months before the renewal, and the DMV must receive the result electronically from the county health department before registering the vehicle.
